The Rise and Fall of the Akkadian Empire The First Dynasty in World History - The Akkadian Empire was one of the first empires in world history, and it existed in ancient Mesopotamia from around 2334 BCE to 2154 BCE. The empire was founded by Sargon of Akkad, who united the city-states of Sumer and Akkad under his rule.

He and his descendants built a centralized government, a professional army, and a complex bureaucracy, and they also promoted the Akkadian language as a lingua franca throughout the empire. 

The empire reached its height under Naram-Sin, who expanded its territory to include parts of Asia Minor and Elam, and it was eventually conquered by the Gutian people.

Sargon of Akkad, who lived around 2334 BCE, came to power in Mesopotamia and established the Akkadian Empire, which was one of the world's first empires. He conquered the Sumerian city-states and established Akkad as the capital of the empire. 

The empire also extended its control to parts of the Levant, including modern-day Syria and Lebanon, and it lasted for around 180 years before collapsing in 2154 BCE. 

During its existence, the empire was known for its centralized government, professional army, and complex bureaucracy, which allowed it to maintain control over a diverse population of Akkadian and Sumerian speakers.
